2019 Ford Explorer vs 2020 Ford Explorer

Waconia Ford is excited to show our customers the recently unveiled 2020 Ford Explorer. This new model is the 6th generation of the legendary Ford SUV that has been popular with families for nearly three decades.  To help better compare the similarities and differences between the 2019 Explorer and the all new 2020 Explorer, we have put together a comparison of the 2020 Ford Explorer vs 2019 Ford Explorer.

The Ford Explorer has been a major part of the American automotive landscape since its introduction in 1991. The Ford Explorer is the bestselling SUV of all-time and continues to lead the mid-sized SUV segment in sales year after year. The Explorer has continued to be one of Ford’s most popular models by offering buyers dependability, bold styling, exceptional comfort and the latest technology and safety features.

2019 Ford Explorer & 2020 Ford Explorer Powertrain Comparison

The 2019 Ford Explorer has three available engine options, each with their own benefits. The standard engine found in the 2019 Explorer is a 3.5L Ti-VCT V6, which generates 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. The next step up is the 2.3L EcoBoost engine, which offers 280 horsepower and an impressive 310 lb-ft of torque. The third available engine is a powerful 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine that provides best-in-class 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque and comes standard on the Explorer Sport and Platinum trims.

The 2020 Ford Explorer has simplified things with two proven powertrain options and standard rear-wheel drive. The base engine is a 2.3L EcoBoost inline-four that produces 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Platinum trim-level Explorers come standard with a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 that produces 365 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. This powerful engine gives the 2020 Explorer a max towing capacity of 5,600 lbs, a 600 lb increase over the 2019 model. These new engines are both mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and provide buyers a significant upgrade in both horsepower and torque compared to last year’s model.

Also new to the Explorer for 2020 is a brand new ST trim (which replaces the current Sport trim) and and an all-new Ford Explorer Hybrid model that will offer incredible range and fuel economy, as well as plenty of on-demand power.
