The base engine is a 2.3L EcoBoost inline-four that produces 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Platinum trim-level Explorers come standard with a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 that produces 365 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. This powerful engine gives the 2020 Explorer a max towing capacity of 5,600 lbs, a 600 lb increase over the 2019 model. These new engines are both mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and provide buyers a significant upgrade in both horsepower and torque compared to last year’s model.
Also new to the Explorer for 2020 is a brand new ST trim (which replaces the current Sport trim) and and an all-new Ford Explorer Hybrid model that will offer incredible range and fuel economy, as well as plenty of on-demand power.
